I've heard there are two kinds of people in this world: I'm one of those who can't stand cilantro. Joe brought home our CSA/farm delivery this week and before he even had it sat down on the counter I could tell there was cilantro in it.

It doesn't taste soapy to me but it still tastes mightily unpleasant. I adore salsa but nothing ruins a batch for me quicker than finding it full of this leafy green stuff.

Note my cilantro is all wilty in the photo? This is because it took me a full ten days to work up enough cold in my nose intestinal fortitude to drag it from the fridge to snap its mugshot.

Know what's sad? I'm not even sure if Joe likes it or not. I'm so opposed, I didn't bother finding out or even attempting to do anything with it. I meant to bring it to work in case someone at the office might be more inclined (I'm not a fan of letting things go to waste) but I couldn't imagine being trapped in a car with it for my twenty minute commute.

Sorry, cilantro, you're no friend of mine.

Do you have an herb that you're violently opposed to or am I the only one so horribly offended by green flavoring-thingys?

  1. I'm with ya there. I HAAAAATE cilantro. Gross. Sick. Ew. Yuck. Hate it.

It infiltrates everything with its awful taste/smell/sensation, so that even the smallest amount of it will ruin a whole meal for me. I say we protest.

  2. I adore cilantro. I use it in scrambled eggs, of course salsa, chopped fine in cream cheese for on crackers. I use it in many ways.

  3. I loathe cilantro!! And I hate when they put in a recipe on the Food Network, it ruins the whole thing for me.

  4. i hate cilantro! i can tolerate it in salsa in small doses but if it's a garnish in soup or something, i won't eat it. ick.

  5. Survey says - everyone but 2cats hates cilantro! I'll keep that in mind next time I have a bunch. :)

  6. I hate the smell and taste of cilantro. I always leave it out when a recipe calls for it. Yuck!

  7. Take heart! Cilantro is one of those foods that grow on you, so be careful. (I know, I always thought that was a dumb saying.) I used to be like you. Couldn't stand the stuff. Then I had to eat it now and then (to be polite, yuk!) and eventually, I found myself wanting to add a just a tiny bit for taste and then more and then a bit more... and now I love the stuff and add handfuls. Go figure?

Food for thought - I bet it's tasty! Thanks for commenting!
